The mission of Gemmy International is to expand upon the global gemological database in the pursuit of the most interesting aspects of this rapidly expanding field. The increasing sophistication of treatments and synthesis of minerals used as gems has reached a juncture where classically trained gemologists utilizing traditional instruments are going to encounter materials that are almost beyond positive identification with conventional means. This is a situation that first became apparent with HPHT and was perhaps even more sobering when bulk diffusion was the buzz phrase in Tucson.
Gemmy will also be a reference for those wishing to learn more about the many varieties of gemological materials. On a regular basis a page devoted to a particular gem variety will be posted. Gemologists, cutters, jewelers, and gem vendors will all be encouraged to contribute items they feel appropriate for the forum as it evolves. Guest articles from gemologists and labs will also be a regular feature.
One area of particular interest to Gemmy will be newly discovered or forgotten identification techniques, and instruments, with which we all might have a positive ID. This venue will be very keen on learning about instruments outside of the gemological arena which may be either useful, affordable, or both.
